About Buffalo Nation Pendleton Blanket

Four buffalo in Red, Yellow, White and Black gather around a medicine wheel, pointing in the sacred Four Directions. The Lakota people depended on Pte, the bison, for food, clothing and shelter, and honored them as “The Buffalo People.” In this design, artist Jim Yellowhawk embraces Mitakuye Oyasin (“We are all related”), a Lakota belief that all living creatures are family, and can live in harmony and peace.

Part of our Legendary Collection, this design honors stories and symbols of Native American cultures.

My family too, we just smudged the house and daily we smudge with sweetgrass, making sure every room is safe to sleep in. Keep healthy and safe! But watching the fringes on my shawl bounce and move brings me happiness as I dance for my family and to keep my community safe, as I hope everyone will do to keep themselves and others around them healthy! Love everyone!

The sun will rise and set as it has since the beginning of time. It is up to us with all the strength and courage and the knowledge of those who have gone before us to see that it does again . We have been through many things that have tried to destroy us and we have always returned with new resolve. Now is the time to show that strength that was fought so hard for and see the the morning anew.
