Wow! On a recent post on Facebook, artist Jamie Okuma (Luiseño/Shoshone-Bannock) shared some stunning beaded boots she had been working on for the past year.
“Finally…… after almost a year, here they are. These fully beaded boots will be on their way to the Peabody Essex Museum for the exhibition “Native Fashion Now” opening in mid 2015.”
I cannot even begin to fathom the painstaking process to get all those beads on there. But Jamie is an expert! At the age of 22, Okuma was the youngest artist to date to win the Best of Show at the Santa Fe Indian Market.
Check out this interview with Jamie from The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art.
You can find some of her work for sale at Beyond Buckskin. Make sure you follow her on Facebook for more fashion finds.
