We R Native is a comprehensive health resource for Native youth, by Native youth. On their website they have a place for readers to ask questions called “Ask Auntie”. A recent question asks “I finally have the courage to become a powwow dancer. What do I do to get in shape?”

Watch the below video to see what Auntie says!

Great advice about checking out the Pow Wow Sweat videos!

Can you guys think of anything else to share with this new dancer?

And just for fun, let me leave you with this video from We R Native that shows what happens around their office when pow wow season starts.

Anyone know where to find Native American Singles for free? I am a single mom looking for someone to pair up and take my kids around the pow wow circuit in California to start. I am a Northern Fancy Shawl Dancer but my kids haven’t got to experience the intertribal scene. I would like for them to get a chance to figure out what dance style, if any they want to learn. I grew up going with my family to the pow wows every weekend it was like my church. As a person of mixed ethnicity, who does not reside on a reservation; I find it hard to connect with other people that come from similar backgrounds as mine. Even tho I am mixed and was not raised on the Res I still would like my children to know some of the traditions of my heritage. I think I would enjoy it much more if I had someone to go with me that also shared a similar background. Anyone interested please contact me at [email protected]. I am in the San Diego,California and my social resources have become limited since I became a mother and I need some help please.
