First Lady Michelle Obama delivered the commencement speech at Santa Fe Indian School yesterday and the crowd was delighted with her words
The Santa Fe New Mexican shared the speech on their YouTube channel and here it is in full.
Wow, very powerful. One of the highlights for me was this part of her speech:
“So graduates, I wanted to be here at your commencement because your values are my values – the values that have carried me all the way from the Southside of Chicago to where I am today, standing before you as First Lady of the United States.
I also wanted to be here because, your stories – your achievements and contributions – and the story of your school, inspire me.
As we all know, this school was founded as part of a deliberate, systematic effort to extinguish your cultures – to literally annihilate who you were and what you believed in.
But today, the Native languages that were once strictly forbidden here now echo through the hallways and in your dorm room conversations at night.”

Congratulations to all the graduates out there!
