Dubstep Video with Native American Flair

Dubstep Video with Native American Flair

This one is an oldie but a goodie. This video came out two years ago but it keeps popping up in my newsfeed from time to time so I wanted to make sure you guys have seen it too. The video is for dubstep artist Skrillex's collaboration with Damian “Jr. Gong” Marley, “Make it Bun Dem”. The video features a Native American family facing eviction from their house. You'll just have to watch the video to see how they handle the situation.

I like the video, skrillex, and I’m Native. I had a feeling that there would be something said about this video when I watched it, but I thought Skrillex was Native. The Native ways are sacred, and should not be publicized in this manner it is disrespectful. I would get permission first, and have some respect for what is not understood. Natives are misunderstood enough.

You’re living in the past! This is a great music video and plenty of the Native community loves it! Just because you think it’s disrespectful doesn’t mean everyone else will think so. Plus the message in this is great, from a directors perspective I see nothing wrong in this.

I agree Twila, well said. Sacred ways should not be used as “native” propaganda. I also think it’s sad that the native family is facing an eviction. That doesn’t really send a positive message on the culture either.

Native Americans are not the only ones who get eviction notices my dear nothing against the culture in that. Just reality for all races and creeds. Don’t get upset over a non issue.

You’re missing the point of this. Watch the video again. It’s not just the Native family getting evicted. The Marshall is kicking everyone out from the whole block to tear down the neighborhood. The suit is carying the building plans for what is to go up in its place. The point to this was that none of the other families could stop from losing their homes. The boy and his father showed strength in their culture. They took a stand…and won. This shows POWER not poverty or propaganda as you put it.
