Its powwow time and starting off this season is one of the biggest powwows in the Indian Country – Denver March Powwow 2017!
The Denver March Powwow is run by the Denver Indian Center, “it started off as a youth enrichment powwow and has continued as that”, says Ken LaDeaux of the DMPW committee. “The Denver March Powwow has also been featured as a premier exhibit at the NMAI (National Museum of American Indian) in Washington D.C.”.
The DMPW is held annually at the Denver Coliseum, which is the near the I-25 and I-70 interchange, as we came off the ramp and it made my heart feel good seeing their powwow sign!
We got a chance to visit their venue on Thursday during the vendor check in. On Friday afternoon, this arena is going to be packed with singers, dancers & visitors from all over the Indian Country!
Heres Ken Ladeaux on the microphone, before the weekend festivities begin, a ground blessing took place to welcome everyone and wish them safe travels to & from Denver, Colorado.
They also gave away sage and requested that it be given to friends & family for good feelings. So to all of our powwows.com readers, this is from me to you.
Afterwards, everyone was treated to a light dinner sponsored by the DMPW Committee with stew & frybread, yum.
While waiting in line for stew & frybread, this guys powwow jacket caught my eye, its from the United Tribes Technical College Powwow in Bismark, North Dakota., circ 1993.
Don't forget to watch powwows.com on Facebook this weekend, we'll be Live Streaming and doing special interviews for our viewers!
