2024 Ittahoba Festival – Special Exhibits and Presentations of Choctaw Culture

2024 Ittahoba Festival – Special Exhibits and Presentations of Choctaw Culture

I had the privilege of attending the 2023 Choctaw Day at the Choctaw Cultural Center, and it was an incredible experience that highlighted the rich history and culture of the Choctaw Nation.  When I travel for PowWows.com, I love when I am able to see some of the local Native culture highlighted like Bird Singing in California or Smoke Dancing in New York state.

The Choctaw pride shows through in their cultural center, and even more with this special one day event.  The event was a perfect blend of education, entertainment, and cultural celebration, and it was inspiring to see how the Choctaw people honor their traditions while sharing them with the broader public.

The day is now called the Ittahoba Festival.  This year, it’s shaping up to be even bigger and better, with more cultural exhibits, interactive presentations, and special performances. What I love about this festival is the chance to immerse yourself in Choctaw heritage in a way that’s both engaging and informative.

The Ittahoba Festival also serves as the kickoff to the Choctaw Pow Wow, one of the most anticipated powwows of the year. If you’re planning to attend, I highly recommend coming early to take advantage of the unique exhibits and presentations offered by the tribe. These presentations provide deeper insights into Choctaw history, language, and arts—making your experience even richer before the energy of the powwow takes over.

Whether you're interested in traditional Choctaw dances, storytelling, or exploring the hands-on exhibits at the Cultural Center, there’s something for everyone at the Ittahoba Festival. I personally can’t wait to see what they have in store this year, and I hope to see you there!

AND don't miss the food at the Champuli Cafe!  You can enjoy traditional Choctaw dishes.
