About Kassie John
Greetings friends and relatives, my name is Kassie John. As a descendant to generations of rug weavers and artists, I am honored to share my candidacy for the title Miss Indian World at this year's Gathering of Nations Pow Wow. April 25th – 27th, 2024Representing the Diné Nation – originally from Chilchinbito and Rock Point, Arizona. I’m overjoyed to represent my shik’éí meaning family, friends, my Diné and Indigenous peoples in this year’s Miss Indian World competition.…I am a first-generation college graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Multidisciplinary Design from the University of Utah. Weaving together Diné and non-Diné creative practices to empower and carry on cultural knowledge and intergenerational healing.…As an artist and designer my mission is to elevate stories that surrounds our Indigeneity, from illustrating Indigenous Womxnhood to reforming the ways Diné Bizaad (my tribal language) is taught and preserved for my Diné peoples.…Every day, I live with the mindset of Hózhó, meaning balance and beauty through a practice of reciprocity, respect to all, and honoring our missing relatives. As I grow into my role as an Indigenous womxn, a daughter, a sister, and a proud auntie, I hope to continue sharing my knowledge and ability with others.…As an avid Jingle Dress dancer, I enjoy traveling to powwows with my family and meeting all my relatives and friends throughout Native country.
