The Manito Ahbee Virtual Powwow takes place May 21-23, the May long weekend in Canada. Last year, we reached over half a million viewers with 700 dancers, from 37 provinces, territories and states and 10 countries!
“The virtual powwow is looking to increase those numbers this year,” said Candice Hart, Manager for the Manito Ahbee Virtual Powwow.
The Manito Ahbee Festival will also include our regular programming but delivered virtually including a land-based education component, a marketplace and tradeshow, Spirit Visions film festival and 48-hour film challenge, and Getting Jiggy With It. The Indigenous Music Awards and Arts Program will present their virtual programming in June with details to be announced at a later date.
“With pandemic restrictions still in place, the border between Canada and the U.S., still closed for non-essential travel, it was the proper choice to make,” said David Dandeneau, Chair of the Manito Ahbee Board of Governors.
“While we will miss visiting with our extended families and friends in person, we are excited to be able to bring our festival to people around the world, in the comfort and safety of their own homes,” said Meeches.
