VINTAGE CHOCTAW BEADED LEATHER DANCE DRESS, MOCS, LEGGINS, BAGS & SHAWL INDIAN
Vintage buckskin leather dress with beadwork and accessories. This is a dance dress made by noted Native American, Charlene Dodson of the Choctaw tribe. This set has beaded mocassins, leggins, two very fine beaded possibles bag, a beaded purse and a dance shawl. This is a fantastic set for any dancer or collector. All the beads appear to be glass (cold to the touch) and the pipe beads appear to be bison bone. The leather is very soft. Also included is a porcupine quill necklace. The mannequin is not included. The current owner paid over $5,000 for this set about 10 years ago and it is one-of-a-kind.
This dress will fit a size small to medium. It's 15″ across the shoulders and about 49″ long. We don't want to give exact measurements because somebody always gripes it's too tight. We are selling this for display only.
Do a little research on the maker, Ms. Dodson. She is very well known and specializes in traditional crafting techniques. This piece was most likely one of her own personal dresses. From what the original owner told us, this was provided to a young Cherokee shawl dancer for use at a pow wow in Tulsa.
