Our photographer friend Emilia Gaston was able to attend the 52nd Annual National Championship Indian Pow Wow in Grand Prairie, Texas recently and enjoyed the sights and sounds. She describes a little bit about the event below:
“It was pretty hot, which was surprising since we had gotten a cold front last week. As soon as the evening hit, a nice breeze came through, which I'm sure the dancers were happy to have… This particular pow wow has some loyal attendees, as many dancers and vendors I spoke with (from out of town) make it a point to come to this pow wow every year if they come to Texas at all.”
Also, if you're in the Grand Prairie, Texas area, don't miss out on the upcoming American Indian Heritage Day of Texas! A special event will be held this Saturday, September 27th. The theme for the 2nd annual heritage day is “Sacred Heirlooms”. This day will recognize the historical, cultural, and social contributions made by the American Indians to the State of Texas.
