Interview by Dr. Dawn Karima, Native American Cultural Editor
Q) Powwows are such a precious part of life for many Natives! All of us here at Powwows.com are thrilled to visit with you again!
A) Hello everyone! My name is Stormie Perdash and I am the current 2013-2014 Eastern Shoshone Indian Days Queen. I am an enrolled member of the Shoshone-Bannock Tribes of Fort Hall, Idaho and a descendant of the Eastern Shoshone Tribes of Fort Washakie, Wyoming. My mother is Char Perdash and my grandparents are Arlinda and Lee Ross Jones of Fort Hall, Idaho.
Q) We truly enjoyed interviewing you when you were crowned! Have you enjoyed your year?
A) Yes! I currently have finished my first year in college at Salish Kootenai College with a 4.0 GPA. I plan to get my Associates in Native American Studies within the next year.
Q) That's wonderful! Congratulations! You are a fabulous role model! How are you celebrating your academic achievement and your successful year as a Miss Eastern Shoshone Indian Days Queen?
A) This year, for my outgoing royalty special, I am having a Sister Team Dance, in honor of my younger sister Kree Star Burnett. She is 10 years old, a jingle dress dancer and a enrolled member of the Eastern Shoshone Tribes. I am having this special because, like all sisters, I have a close bond with mine. Even though we have an 8 year age difference, she is like my best friend.
Q) Super cute! Is that a great feeling or what?
A) She is my number one fan and is always copying me. whether it be dancing or the little things like at restaurants, when I order a Dr. Pepper, she has to order a Dr. Pepper. I taught her how to dance jingle at a young age, and this is part of the reason why we are so close.
Q) Wow! Does that influence your choices or your decisions? Do you see yourself as a role model?
A)I believe that Kree Star is the reason for the way I carry myself. Whenever I plan to pursue anything, I always have my sister in mind, that she is always looking up to me. I know that I shouldn't give up because there will always be a young girl watching my every move. I am drug and alcohol free and plan to pursue my education as far as I can, and try to be the best role model I can be because of my sister always watching and mimicking my every move. This special really is Kree's special because she makes me who I am today.
Q) What a beautiful way to look at life! You are inspiring!
A) I am so thankful for the opportunity to be the Easten Shoshone Indian Days Queen for the year 2013-2014. I'd like to thank the powwow committee, the singers, dancers and spectators, because without you, there would be no powwow!
Q) Your special is a blessing, then! How can folks participate?
A) I invite all powwow dancers and sisters to the 55th Annual Eastern Shoshone Indian Days Powwow, June 27-29 and hope everyone can attend!
Q) Thank you for being such a lovely motivational force for our youth!
A) Thank you!!!
