Over the weekend, Viceland aired a new series that highlights “Indigenous communities across the Americas to meet people protecting their homelands and rising up against colonization.”

Rise is directed by Michelle Latimer (Métis / Algonquin) and hosted by Sarain Carson-Fox (Anishinabe)

The first episode, a two parter, focuses on the Standing Rock movement.

Sacred Water: Standing Rock Part I

Red Power: Standing Rock Part II

I can't wait to see the other episodes in the series! Next week they'll be airing the ‘Apache Stronghold' episode, in which we see the San Carlos Apache fighting to stop the transfer of sacred lands from the US government to a multinational mining company.

‘Apache Stronghold' airs, Friday, 02/03 at 9P on VICELAND.
