Journalist and Photographer Corinne Oestreich will be an attendee as a guest with Young Spirit Singers to cover the event on Powwow.com's Facebook page and Instagram Stories. Around 11:45 am Pacific time, Powwows.com will be conducting a live interview with Young Spirit Singers before entering on the Red Carpet to live broadcast their pre-show performance around 12:30pm Pacific time. These “lives” will be on the Powwows Facebook page.
Corinne Oestreich has intentionally organized her entire red carpet look to represent all indigenous designers and artists. Her dress is designed specifically for her by Norma Baker FlyingHorse of Red Berry Woman (Showing in Paris Fashion Week Feb 27th), her Moccasins and beaded earrings are Ojibwe floral design by Anishnaabe artist Jaymie Campbell of White Otter Design Co. who's work has been featured on B.Yellowtail and in Native Business Magazine. Corinne's makeup will be provided by professional makeup artist and photographer Hannah Manuelito of OXDX clothing.
While Corinne's contributions to PowWows.com for the Grammys are merely that of media coverage, it was important to her to use this very public opportunity to represent indigenous art and fashion in a place that is typically seen as “non-indigenous.”
“Putting Native Fashion intentionally in a public spotlight is an act of resistance. It's bringing thought and conversation to Native issues on a night when fashion and music very often bring the conversation to money and material things.” -Corinne Oestreich
