Last year, San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick announced the formation of the Colin Kaepernick Foundation, in which a major goal was his “Million Dollar Pledge” to give $100,000 each month for ten months to charitable organizations to “fight oppression of all kinds globally, through education and social activism.” Well, he has since made good on his promise and recently donated $50,000 to
UCSF for The Mni Wiconi Health Clinic Partnership at Standing Rock.
For a little background information on the clinic, I went to their Crowdfund website:
In early September 2016, the Do No Harm Coalition at UCSF was invited to help create a free clinic at the camp of the Standing Rock Lakota Dakota and their supporters who are gathering to protect access to clean water and dignity of their ancestral lands. In November 2016, UCSF Native American health students under the Native American Health Alliance at UCSF assumed the role of indigenous leadership for this exciting project.
The Mni Wiconi (Water is Life) Health Clinic is a free integrative clinic that is developing with Standing Rock Sioux Tribe traditional healers, UCSF providers and students, National Nurses United, Changing Woman Initiative (indigenous midwifery group) and Global Health Care Alternative Project to provide free care to all people on tribal land in the Standing Rock Sioux reservation. At the invitation of the tribe, our consortium’s goal is to create a space for the imagining and practice of decolonized medicine in order to further the health of the community in the short-term with the expanded population due to pipeline resistance and in the longterm after the encampments have dissolved.
So cool to see that Standing Rock was on his radar and he values the work they're doing. I look forward to seeing who all he donates to throughout the year.

says:I am really glad that Standing Rock Health Center got a nice donation. I am sure they are in desperate need for donations. I have a problem with Colin Kaepernick’s DISRESPECTING our flag by kneeling when the National Anthem is playing. My dad is a Korean Vet and served many years for this country and was not even born here. He is also a retired Chief in the Sheriff’s Department after serving 30 years as a reserve Sheriff. As a reserve , he only made a $1.00/year , but loved what he did and was proud to protect the community. He did not become a sheriff for the money.
My whole family is very PROUD of my 83 year old father for serving this country in the Korean War and as a Sheriff. He put his life on the live every day.
Colin Kaepernick does not know what it is like to serve and protect. If he has a problem with The National Anthem being sung at football games, keep it to yourself and deal with it. Maybe he should leave this country and live somewhere else. Colin is a disgrace to human life.
I hope the Standing Rock Health Center receives many donations from people who respect this country.

What he is doing now still might be construed as negative or divisive.But giving his money to support his beliefs to help poor kids is commendable – If he would be more inclusive with all groups of poor kids he would be better served. The way is stands now he shot himself in the foot and he is paying the price – losing his position as a fine if not excellent QB. Even the smartest among us say or do stupid things. “I did not have sex with that women” that was Bill Clinton, If you like your Doctor you can keep your doctor”, and lastly some real wisdom; Out of the Indian approach to life there came a great freedom, an intense and absorbing respect for life, enriching faith in a Supreme Power, and principles of truth, honesty, generosity, equity, and brotherhood as a guide to mundane relations.
