Correction: I didn’t mean “Pow Wows”, I meant “Smoke Signals”.
In the last 50 years of the film industry America has come a long way, from the Native American being portrayed as a stupid and submissive stereotypical person, to a universally intelligent person. I saw “Pow Wows” and felt the movie met the mark, which was the mark of necessity in portraying Native Americans as they should be. It was honest, funny, and human. It sure hit my mark. A good movie is a movie I can watch 10 times and get something good out of it every time. Now this new movie is coming out. If it does not portray Native Americans in a good light, I’m sure we will have something to say about it. 🙂 :). Who will they learn from? Us.
Various tribes/nations throughout the country have the potential for a significant voice in American media and politics. I’m wondering when they will find the way to bring out a cultural revival, sharing their stories from their hearts, opposed to a skewed depiction through the lens of artists and producers?
