Natives helping Natives thrive and transform that’s what it’s all about.

Ginew Inc., one of our Powwows. com Shop Native partners, is receiving a $500,000 investment from Raven Indigenous Capital Partners. The money will ultimately help them transform their company’s participation in the apparel industry.

With this new partnership, Ginew, the only Native American-owned demin company, will be able to bring its unique designs to a broader audience.

The money will help promote the following initiatives:

  • transform Native representation in the apparel industry;
  • engage in relational interactions versus transactional;
  • nurture a culture-centered approach to business;
  • develop a robust and resilient Native economy;
  • sustain change and the well-being of people and the planet.

Ginew was founded by Native American couple Amanda Bruegl and Erik Brodt, who originate from Wisconsin and currently reside in Portland, Oregon. Crafted leather goods created by traditional methods passed down from prior generations make their products stand out. Many of their specialty items are hunted, prepared, tanned, and hand-dyed, although they also offer other apparel such as denim, tees, and accessories, among other things.

The couple fuses “contemporary Native American style with Ojibwe, Oneida, and Stockbridge-Munsee design elements in heirloom-quality garments and goods.” A part of them, their family, and their heritage are woven within the fabric of each garment.

Raven Indigenous Capital Partners are North America’s only Indigenous-led and owned impact investment firm, which contributes to the advancement of Native entrepreneurs by empowering them to revitalize their Indigenous communities and beyond. They honor the Seven Sacred Teachings, which guide them not only in the business world but in life itself. These include love, respect, bravery, honesty, wisdom, humility, and truth.

It's wonderful to see this type of partnership take shape and create opportunities for family-owned, Native American businesses. Amanda and Erik hope to use their innovation to bring awareness to Indigenous-owned companies and inspire others.
