While Honoring Code Talkers, Trump Makes Tasteless ‘Pocahontas’ Joke

In what was supposed to be a pleasant event honoring some of our brave Navajo codetalkers, Donald Trump decides to make a Pocahontas crack, presumably aimed at Elizabeth Warren.

“You were here long before any of us were here. Although we have a representative in Congress who they say was here a long time ago. They call her Pocahontas,” Trump said, once again crudely referring to Warren’s Native American heritage. “But you know what, I like you, because you are special.”

MSNBC was interviewing Elizabeth Warren on an unrelated topic so they were able to get a quick response from her:

He knows nothing about real human beings and how we care for our people and our land. He’s just a Asshole with money!!!! And some of you don’t see that

Shame is not in trumps vocabulary. In fact if you really listen you will realize how ignorant and crude he is. Those gentle Navajo heroes stood silently while he demeaned them in his special subtle way. Pocahontas be proud. Lil Marco stand proud as he singled you out because you threatened him. And all of you whom he needs to bring down so he can stand tall. Let him know it did not work!!!

This makes me sad. The white people have always made fun of Natives in front of us, to our face while holding a knife deep into our backs. I’m upset because this President can make fun of ANYONE. No respect for our elders and using them to his advantage. Nothing about how brave they were. I wish Natives would stop accommodating the President and stay away from his invitations. It’s all part of his evil agenda.

David Blackburn

He doesn’t consider himself President, he thinks he’s been anointed King.

As a white person (widow of a Navajo man), I was appalled and infuriated by Trump’s performance. Watching Trump in front of the elders, I felt tremendously ashamed to be white. Those men don’t need Trump to tell them they are special; they committed heroic feats both in combat and as Code Talkers. They are national heroes and deserve the respect and acknowledgement commensurate with their actions.

I have always be proud of my Native Ancestors…proud of the fact the Warror blood flows in my veins……i am not proud to see howthe Warror blood no longer flows…that it has ended …because there are no warrors left…they are dhing of old age and had not been replaced within the following generations….and i weep at the Sadness of it……maybe one day we will have Warrors again instead of whining children that cry for attention
