Faith Spotted Eagle For President?

Faith Spotted Eagle For President?

On Monday, members of the electoral college finally cast their official votes for the next President of the United States. Some folks were holding out hope there would be dissenters and people would ditch Donald Trump, but in the end most stuck to the script. 304 votes went to Trump, 227 for Hillary Clinton, three for former Secretary of State Colin Powell, and one vote each for Bernie Sanders, Ron Paul, John Kasich, and Faith Spotted Eagle.

But wait, go back to that last name, Faith Spotted Eagle? That's right! She's a member of the Yankton Sioux Nation and has been a key player in helping block the Keystone XL pipeline and the Dakota Access Pipeline. As the Seattle Times reports, she received one vote from a Washington State elector.

Robert Satiacum, a member of Washington’s Puyallup Tribe who had supported Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders as the Democratic presidential nominee, was the Washington state elector who voted for Faith Spotted Eagle. On Monday, he said his electoral vote was for “a real leader” instead of Clinton.

Last month CNN sat down with Spotted Eagle to get a little bit of insight into the fight against the Dakota Access Pipeline.

Built on sacred land: 'It's going to be a battl...

I have faith that some young people will see this leader and decide they should run for office some day!

I hope she does run in 2020. I would vote for her. We need more native Americans in national politics for so any reasons. We have four years to work on it.
