Interview by Dr Dawn Karima, Native American Culture Editor

Apache artist Frizzo El Mero Mero is “doin' it big” in the rap game! Fresh off success from his “Faith” video, this rapper is making music with a powerful message! He shares his story, his vision and his Native culture with Powwows.com!

Q) We're delighted to meet you! Will you introduce yourself to us please?
A) My name is Frizzo El Mero Mero. Rap artist Doing it big for all the people who can relate and enjoy the music I put out.

Q) Great! So what does “doing it big” mean to you? Tell us about your music career?

A) Started performing at age 16 all over the southwest areas. Produced many Demo CDs and released many albums. Have a couple available on iTunes, Google Play etc. One of my favorite accomplishments was opening up for Baby Bash and MC magic with Low Profile Records in my home town Mescalero NM. Been on GLC (God’s Learning Channel) twice. But more importantly, I enjoy the accomplishments of giving back to the community. I've been blessed to be apart of so many Charity events, car shows, raising money for different causes, Suicide awareness, cancer awareness, school supply drives, and just so many that I can’t even name them all but that’s where I feel the real accomplishment is at. Being able to help someone or a community for a good cause is always the best accomplishment.

Q)How does your Tribal heritage appear in your life as a way of life? How does culture impact the way that you live and the way that you make your music?

A) I love my Native American people. I am a Mescalero Apache from Mescalero NM, Enrolled Tribal Member. My father is Mescalero Apache and my Mother is Hispanic. I live my life to Glorify God and to do whatever I can to make this world a better place. I have a simple Message to the world that God is Good, You were put on this earth for a purpose and if you can see it happening in your mind you can make it happen for yourself.

Q) You have a powerful message! How do you hope your musical message moves in the lives of your listeners?

A) I hope that not only Native Americans but everyone who can relate to my music simply enjoy the music and feel the positive energy that will stimulate their mind, body and Soul.

Q) So what is your positive energy?? How would you describe your outlook?

A) Basically, just really believing in myself and the music. To not worry about what everyone else thinks and just do what I love to do. It took me along time to get to the point where I know what I’m doing is right, its God’s plan, and every things working out on perfect timing. I believe a lot of us worry too much about, “Well, why hasn’t this happened yet? And when will it happen for me? And how come I don’t have this or that?”. But once I started focusing on what I had and stopped focusing on what I didn’t have, more and more better things started happening. I had to come to realize that by being grateful for the little things I do have that God would bless me with more and he did.

Q) Yes!!! I agree! As I always say on my radio show, “Gratitude is the only attitude worth having.”
Gratitude inspires others,so who are some of the musicians who inspire you? Why?

A)I grew up listening to all the Greats from 2pac, Snoop, Dre, Ice Cube to all the classic Gangster Rap. I enjoy all of them. I have always been a big fan of Litefoot (Native American Rap artist) and I got the privilege to meet him when he did a concert in my hometown Reservation when I was 11 years old and he has always been inspiring to me.
I enjoy a lot of the new Rap musicians everyone from Drake, Lil wayne, Rich Homie Quan, G easy, anything that’s banging at the time not really for the lyrics they are rapping about but for the way it sounds and the talent they have. I am also a big fan of Chicano Rap, Royal T, Lil Bandit, Mr Sancho and I now have the privilege of working with their record label. Been doing some great things with them. I don’t really have a favorite musician but I enjoy all types of different music anyone from Micheal Jackson, Bruno Mars, to Jeulz Santana and Cassidy and even Justin Bieber! Hahahaha!!!!

Q) You were encouraged by your role models, so encourage someone else! Please give a good word to someone who needs some help to start their dream?

A) Just do what you love to do. Enjoy yourself and make the type of music people will enjoy. Always bring that positive energy and picture yourself being successful and let it happen. Don’t spend so much time worrying about how it’s going to happen, but just focus on the outcome and take that first step.

Q) If you could offer any warnings to someone new to performing music, what would you caution them NOT to do?

A) Don’t hate on other people. Don’t get too caught up in competitions. Run your own race.

Q) What would you like us to know that we don't already know about you?

A) I work in Marketing/ Advertising as a Graphic Designer at the Inn of the Mountain Gods Resort and Casino. I also DJ and MC all types of shows so if you ever want to book me for an event, we can make it happen. I also DJ on LPG Radio. Which is also an internet Radio that you can listen to by downloading the app on your app store. Check out my new Music video of the Song titled “Faith” at http://youtube/V9xiIzGGNKk

Q) Thanks so much for sharing with us. We sure do appreciate you!
A) I sure do appreciate you. Thank you for giving me this opportunity. It is truly a blessing. Stay Beautiful,Dawn, and keep doing all the great things you are doing. God Bless.
