City of Eureka in Northern California votes to return land to Wiyot Tribe

By a unanimous vote, the city council has decided to return sacred land back to the Wiyot people.

“Two points of clarification were made Tuesday evening. The Wiyot Tribe believes this is sacred land, not a surplus property. Second, this is not just a transfer of property, it’s a step towards equality and liberation.”

  2. I live on the other side of the mountains from Eureka and am pleased with the City Council’s decision. It’s wonderful to witness positive things like this in my home state of California.
