Casting Call for Jingle Dancers

Project Title: The Healing

Asvoria Media Inc. is seeking up to 100 Native Jingle Dancers for a scene in the short film The Healing. Filming will take approximately one day. Food and beverages will be provided on set. This is a volunteer position.

Dancers must be experienced in traditional jingle dancing and own their own jingle dress.

Synopsis
A drug-addicted woman on the verge of death enters the spirit plain where her ancestral spirits perform a healing dance in the hopes of saving her.

Casting Call #2

Synopsis
A drug-addicted woman on the verge of death enters the spirit plain where her ancestral spirits perform a healing dance in the hopes of saving her.

Characters – Speaking

Erica (Lead) – 30-40 year old Native female. Erica is married with a young daughter. She struggles with a drug addiction, which she had been trying to hide from her family and co-workers. She eventually can no longer hide her addiction and spirals out of control.

Shane – 30 – 40 year old Native male. Shane is Erica’s husband. His is kind, caring and gentle and greatly involved in his community. He has been supportive of Erica and tried to help her as best he could, but has to make the decision to protect his daughter by pushing Erica away.

Ally – 8 – 12 year old Native female. Ally is the daughter of Erica and Shane. She loves both her parents but is terrified by what is happening to her mom. She is torn between wanting to be with her mom but knowing that something is not right with her.

Malcolm 35 – 55 year old male. Malcolm is Erica’s boss at work and is forced to terminate her employment.

Teacher 25 – 45 year old female. The teacher must pull Ally away from Erica when Erica makes an unexpected visit to the school. While she is compassionate for the mother, her main concern is the safety of Ally and the other students. She sees Erica as a possible threat.

Old Woman– 60 – 80 year old Native female. The Old Lady comes to Erica as she nears death and guides the Jingle Dancers in a traditional healing dance.

Drug Dealer – 18-30 year old male.

Background Roles (non-speaking)
Teachers 25 – 55 years old, male or female – 1-2 required
Children/youth 6 – 14 year old male or female – 10-15 required
Nightclub attendees – 18 – 30 year old, male or female – 8-10 required
