Water is a precious resource that a lot of people unfortunately take for granted. Many conservation groups, both Native and non-Native, have been trying to educate people on how to conserve water and keep it clean for future generations.
Dallas Peterman is a young Navajo man from Arizona who is trying to help raise awareness on this very issue. He recently hitchhiked over 1,000 miles to drought-stricken Northern California to kick-off his Water Is Life Challenge. What exactly is the challenge? Watch the videos below to learn more and hear what inspired him to create the Water Is Life Challenge.
Like he states in the video, taking a shower with a 5 gallon bucket of water is probably no big deal if you grew up on the reservation. Many times folks have to walk to the well to get the water, bring it back to the house and heat it up on the stove. Unless you like cold showers, brr!
And here is Dallas' Challenge video.
Easy right? Join Dallas in his effort to conserve and raise awareness of our sacred resource. Take the Water Is Life Challenge and nominate 4 others to do the challenge! Make it fun, make it silly, but no matter how, know that you can make a difference! By his calculations, replacing one of your showers with a 5 gallon bucket of water could potentially save anywhere from 10 to 20 gallons of water!
