So my mom has always told me that i was Gabrielino/ Tongva native american but since we moved to north carolina there isn’t any of those types of native americans over here. MY mother isn’t lying she used to get free medical insurance as a native american when she lived in california and her maiden name is Acuña. What can i do to find my ancestors who were Gabrielino/Tongva? Would an ancestry/geneology test find it in my blood?
Would like to know how to trace my Native American heritage, I live in Stockton, Ca. and am told my grandparents were Terasco Indians from Mexico. Grandparents lived in the Tulare, San Fernando valley area.
My DNA IS 60 PERCENT NATIVE AMERICAN.
HOW CAN I FIND OUT MORE INFORMATION.
I received my DNA results that show I am 19% Native American. I know my great grandmother was 1/2 Cherokee, she was born in Missouri. I also know there is Choctaw in that line somewhere too. On my fathers side, I have traced to Pueblo in Mexico.
How can I register as Native American? I am not sure who to contact. I am in Stockton, CA.
Thank you.
Take a look at our info here – http://www.powwows.com/2012/07/27/am-i-native-american-how-to-find-my-indian-ancestors/
My Grandmother was born in Soledad Ca. from the local Native American tribe. Before she past away, she told me that her Father was the chief of her tribe and was given for adoption because she was a girl and the first born. Her adopted name was Viviana Velasquez and her adopted parents were from Solana Beach Ca. She was born in 1907-09 and she told me that she was afraid of his Father when he wore the tribal ceremony outfits. anyway, I’d like to see if someone can help look for my native American tribal name. Who do I need to get a hold of to find out more information?
Thank You
Juan Garcia
I have a family tree that consists of ancestors from New Mexico grandfather and grandmother both born in New Mexico They were both APACHE MESCALERO TIWA NATIVE AMERICANS I am having a difficult time trying to get my document proof of our tribe. My insurance dropped me until I can provide proof of my ancestor and that I am truly a Native American Indian.
I would truly appreciate any information on how I can obtain this information. I respectfully submit this information and your consideration in this matter.
I’m trying to find what tribe my family is part of I use to go to an Indian clinic in North long beach on long beach Blvd in the late 70s and early 80s my uncle took me there when I got sick his name was Robert Goleta he lived in Hawaiian gardens my email is [email protected] my address is 236 tree to liver st bkfld CA 93307 my name is Anthony Senteno

What about the Coastanoan Ohlone Esscalon from San Benito County, California. We have not been federally recognized, but my ancestors built the Mission. We are part of the Mission Band of Indians. Can someone help me, because the Lawyer that was to help us ran off with the money. Anyone know where to start?
Thanks,
Lori
Lori-
Have you gone to the mission?? That would be a good place to start. My family is currently registering with the Gabrielino/Tongva and we are not federally recognized either. For that, you have to have original birth certificates as far back as you can get with someone’s ethnicity marked Indian or Mexican with the birth place itself as the mission. Also- you have to have a roll number which you can get from the Native American Archives in Perris, CA or San Bruno, CA. That roll number has to match a name of a descendant whose birth certificate you have. Then contact the BIA with your documents.
Thanks for your post. I also am a decendent of a Mission born lady, my Great grandmother Rosa Borhorquez who was 100 percent Tongva and adopted by the family which provides her SPanish last name. The feds have not recognized the Tongvas and that is sad. After all what was the tribe that lived in the L.A. basin and North to the Chumash and on the Channel Islands. I will try to get a hold of the needed documentation as you have suggested.
