It is Wednesday and Native people from all over are beginning to arrive in Duke City for the 34th Annual Gathering of Nations Powwow in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
As everyone knows, this powwow currently moved to the NM Expo, which is home to the New Mexico State Fair.
This evening, I got a chance to visit the new space before everyone starts arriving. This powwow will be held inside Tingley Coliseum, the main difference, there will be less walking down & up stairs, especially for their powwow crowds.
The NM Expo area is huge and equipped to accommodate large crowds. For the past couple of years, I was a host for Stage 49, which is an outside stage that showcases First Nations entertainment, music, comedy, spoken word, whether it is contemporary or traditional. Here's what the new Stage 49 looks like, it's now under a tent with plenty of seating, talk about a serious upgrade! I really love the available seating underneath the tent which will give everyone a break from the hot New Mexico sun!

The Indian Traders Market tent is conveniently located next to Stage 49 & the Tingley Coliseum entrance! This space is going to be packed with people over the weekend! Look for strolling entertainers and happy faces around this entire area!
It is easy to see why the people keep returning to Albuquerque, the landscape is like catching up with a good friend you haven't seen in a while.
For those of you who can make the world's biggest powwow, gets your taste buds ready for some of that delicious frybread, yum!
For everyone else who can't make it, watch www.powwows.com or the www.powwows.com Facebook page, we'll be broadcasting Live! Until then, be well & travel safe! Aho!
