  1. The leather you are using is not rawhide, it is saddle leather or belting. To teach this stuff, you got to be precise in what you tell people. Rawhide would be ok, but it is super hard and could be uncomortable. Since Rawhide is Raw, untanned leather, some oil my come out on regalia. Latigo is also ok, but oil tanned so the oil can come out on your regalia as with the rawhide. Your teaching method is good, but you appolojize a little too much, and repeat some.

  2. I wouldn’t recommend a box cutter because it’s too easy to slice your finger open, but there is an actual tool for setting spots. It’s called a spot setter. You just line it up where you want the spots and hit it with a hammer. It is basically a two hole punch for leather.
