Online Computer User Group

An online computer user group for the serious minded, regardless of type of computer they use or operating system. Something where various topics can be discussed such as equipment and equipment problems, to software to operating systems and problems with same. Also could provide software sharing, and support and help for people wanting to learn and do more wih what they have. Tech Help is ok for general information on general type questions, and seems to do good for what it was designed to cover, but an Onlie Computer Users Group could go 1 step beyond tech help for computer users.

A forum where we could have open discussios on Operating Systems, Browsers,Software, installation problems and how to correct, equipment and how to get the best preformance out of what you are using, Formating and Installing Windows,Upgrading to a newer operting system. Also best places on buying new equipment or replacement parts, and where to find software, running multiple operating systems such as Windows and Linux, and even get into some programing discussions. Also software sharing-somebody having a problem with something they using and need to reinstall or somebody needing to add software but having problems on downloading-if somebody in forum has software they can share, they help each other.Maybe even go so far to have something on servers and websites.

I *usually* don't have any problems of my own, but I spend alot of time fixing computers for everyone else I know. I have some really obscure programming expertise, but I could definitely use help with more mainstream type stuff like web pages.

We could also start a project up, something like making a good beadwork designer for all styles that we would provide for free (kinda like Mozilla and Suse Linux). I've been meaning to do that for a long while.

My only concern is that it may be difficult to make sure that all software downloading is legal....

On the difficulty of making sure software downloads were legal, the only ones that would have to worry about that I believe would be the ones actually doing the downloading. If I have software and I decide I will share with you,as long as I'm not actually charging you for it, or to use it, then I would the one responsible for any legalities. You would assume, naturally, that I had ever legal right to have said software.

More Linux compatibility

I agree that there should be some OS help, perhaps FAQs or with different topics.

I use SUSE at home, and recently became familiar with PW.com. I got frustrated a few times when I have to login multiple times (w/ Konqueror).

With Mozilla, I get stuck when loading pages with a cookie coming from cdn1.???.com... Yes, I block popups and cookies... I have to restart my browser and login again.

With the radio... I don't have any apps that will play your radio. Other sites use REAL PLAYER, this works great. I sortof prefer .RAM or .PLS streams.

Thanks for listening...

"open source" - many authors can access the source code... they may also writer kernels of code to modify the way the source works.

you can search the web for specific support and programs written for linux that will work for you. There are a lot of linux program writers out there. also you can search for free downloads from these places....

Excuse me vince_j,
I didn't know what your occupation is... You likely know more about Linux than I do.

Something like this would be great to have for both general discussions and specific questions. Could a Classified/swap section also be included where if somebody lookung for something equipment wise, or somebody with something to sell
or swap? Lots of good stuff out there floating around that might not otherwise be available.
