I just got back from boot camp, and the liberals have gotten into the military enough. I about had my fill in boot camp with the whiners, complainers, and "individualist" who volunteered themselves. The last thing the military needs is to have people who do not want to be there dragging everyone else down.
Personnally I was shocked with boot camp. The first few days were what I expected and pretty rough, but after that boot camp, to me, was a complete joke. I honestly expected something near the caliber of Full Metal Jacket (although I know swearing and physical abuse is not allowed). There was no discipline at all, and the hardest thing about boot camp were the Taco Puffs they served in the galley. Maybe I should have gone to Paris Island instead. Anyway, the only thing I can think of are all the human rights people or whatever, getting into the military and trying to soften it up. I would have been happy to have 3 hours of sleep a night and eating bread and water for 8 weeks... Making it rain in the compartment was fun!

I do believe in mandatory service for everyone coming out of high school for at least two years. Much in the same way it is for Israel. Having said that... I think the idea of the new PC, Camp Cupcake Boot Camps needs to go. Get back to digging into these kids these days. They need to stop being so self-centered and learn discipline, and the concept of team and community.
Just my caveat to the last post.

OK, I'm telling my age! I went through Basic with the LAST class of draftees back in '72. I enlisted. They did 2 years, I did 3 years. I've always thought the draft was good, but after seeing this generation (with exception of a few), I think their parents made them into a bunch of candy asses.
Oh yeah. When I went through jump school back in the day, we wore BOOTS on all our runs instead of tennis shoes!!! ![]() And to those of you who are serving now, or have served, my hat is off to you!!!

In my division, there were recruits complaining about sitting on the floor... I'm thinking to myself you better be glad we're not standing the whole time.

Pretty good... The boot runs we did in the mid 80's in the Corps, dunno if they do that anymore...And yeah, the new generation is weak for sure.

Hey SmokeEater...when I went thru Glakes...There was the 'smoke' house where you are given a gas mask/oba...which has enough oxygen for a short time...then you go in a brick 2 story room...with the floor being a grate, and oil underneath...then they started it in fire...so it would smoke. You couldn't see **** and had to make your way thru there.
Naturally, I got turned around and was starting to wonder how much oxy was left..and right about the time I got worried...a guy stepped on my head..from the ladder above...so then I knew the way out! do they still do that? C |

old news...the pepsi generation is spoiled, undisiplined and I'm glad they are not here in this Army...Keep them out. Or in the Corps, cause they don't play there either. This new American wants something for nothing is all it is...Think freedom is free? Ask a Jew who was in the camps in WW II? Or someone who was in the death march in Phillipines.
America has weak citizens except for its military personnel...well, not all are good, cause there are some who have screwed up in the military as well..But the civilian population expects freedom to given to them, and they aren't doing anything in return. No wonder the WW II generation is considered the "Greatest Generation". They worked and sacrificed alot to get us where we are today and todays americans are a buncha P*****.

Negative. I spent a grand total of 30 seconds with my mask off in the Gas/CBR/"Confidence" chamber. They lined us up, and had one row at a time remove their mask. Two instructors started from opposite ends and we had to spit our or name and division. After all in our row had gone, we were sent out.
Like I said before, Navy boot camp is not hard (at least in my opinion). The toughest time I had was trying to decide what I wanted to eat at chow, and ironing my skivvy stack at night. However when I was in the Academy for the fire department they took us into the basement of the burn building. When they told us the day before to wear "dirty" clothes, I knew something was up. That afternoon before they sent us home they put lined us along the wall. There are two pits down on the bottom where they pour Class B fuels to make fires and smoke for the burn building. They lit the pits, and each of us had to take turns putting the fire out with a Dry Chem extinguisher. THAT SUCKED!!! The instructors all had on SCBA's and we had nothing. I don't know which one was worse, the "Confidence Chamber" or the Basement. Quote:

I don't think they will bring back the draft. Too many whinners in this country now.
I know what ya'll are talking about with todays boot camp. Our foster daughters boyfriend is in Army Special Opps and they had dang "TIME OUT" cards to hand their DI if he started stressing them out! I looked at the kid and ask him do you think the enemy is going to stop shooting at you because your stressed out? GET A CLUE! They want you to be stressed out! When your stressed you make mistakes, in a war zone mistakes get you and your buddies killed. These kids don't have a clue. My cousin said if he had handed his DI a time out card the man would have torn it up and then started tearing on him. My nephew is a recruiter now and he is suppose to have atleast 2 new recruits a month. He says he would rather be back in Iraq. Kids really don't want to join in war time.
