Hmmm.... let's see here. Been to hawaii about 4 times but managed to keep my nose clean there. Singapore was nice but only got to spend one day there. Guam was a bust becuase we weren't allowed off base due to washdown. Dubai was cool, went there twice and smoked some cubans. Darwin was alright, been there twice also and had some good food at the Hog's Breath. Perth, For some reason can't remember what I did there due to the fact I was pretty much wasted the entire time. Sydney was by far the best and spent a week there to avoid a storm on the way home. Had my 21st b-day there.

Oh man I totally forgot all about the shellback ceremony. Had mine on the U.S.S Peleliu and I can still feel the salt water burning my eyes and throat. The second time around it was my turn to be the a**hole and boy was that fun. Had those nasty wogs acting like a bunch of idiots all day. thx to ndnredd for jarring my memory. Can't believe I forgot all about that.

OMG! you just jarred mine!
Shellback ceremony eatin beans died 'pollywog' green! "kissin the baby' gettin beat up with fire hoses....crawlin thru that 'chute' full of whatever! and better, since i was a known smart ***...I got the hell beat out of me too! but it wasn't THAT bad tho...Or hey .50 if you see this...We had a flag football league in Japan...and after all the games were played ..it came down to us (Navy CIC men) vs. the shipboard Marines. I was the quarterback..and though I had help....the main reason we got to the championship game. Anyways...all thru the game...people were punching, kicking, holding, biting, and just generally beating the hell outta me every chance they got...in FLAG football! lol....so with my temper, I was more determined than ever to win...and fought back every way I could...but they beat us 14-7... I could JUST barely walk...(at 19 y/o lol) and was headed back to the ship when the gunny (e-8) from the corps stopped me. He said...we knew stopping you was the best chance of winning..so we threw everything at you....but you hung tough, gouged, kicked, and scratched back anyway! Then he said...we're having a big party tonite..and would be honored to have you there..you're an honorary Marine! well, I did go..and was the ONLY sailor there...but EVERYBODY kept buying me drinks...and swappin stories, etc...it was great..and the honor was mine! tho I needed crutches to go to town later! lol to THIS day...tho I still wish I could have found a way to win tho! rofl.....but they were just too tough...and determined.... |

Oh yeah I earned my golden shellback deal on board the floating ho hotel, USS Harpers Ferry....man, that place was a big trouble spot for MArines, cuz the female sailors would do what they could to get you in trouble...I had 4 friends of mine lose rank, pay and get put on restriction for messing around with them hos.....but anyway.........I got my azz beat down the whole freakin day and it was hot as a mudder fukker too!!!.....anyway, I had fun and I still proudly show that thing around to the old salty dogs and get a beer handed down every once in awhile.....goot times, goot times....

If only you could change the hands of time..............LOL! All the stories you are telling does bring back memories. Girls have fun too...hands down I have to say Alcupolco, Mexico. I can't leave out Sydney and Townsville. It's funny how, you land in the most awful, wrenching, desolate place on earth-Sailors and Marines find a way to have fun. I tell you, it's pretty funny when beer can be delivered to the desert. I remember once I got so drunk, celebrating my birthday......I was carried back through the quarterdeck like a log. shhhhhhhhhhhhh! Bali, Indonesia-liberty boats broke down so we had about 500 people drunk as hell waiting for hours on the pier.....that was funny! Abu Dahbi-the whole command was banned from a hotel club! Seen alot of marriages happen too (stereotypical), but it happens. Guys you all know that story? Waking up with someone you thought was someone else...........damn them beergoggles! LOL!

Actually the first place I ever went was to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. It was more like an excuse to go some where than going to train some pilots and aircrew. So, we flew out to the Belleau Wood and it was my first time getting on a ship this big and man did I have a hard time gettting my sea legs. I was okay for about the first five mins until we got to the mess decks and the smell hit me like a sledgehammer. It took a couple of days before I could go anywhere near the mess decks and eat something. By the time we hit P.V it was like paradise, and since we where in mexico I could drink beer because I was only 19 at the time. While there this guy took us all over the place in his truck and it only cost us about 15 pesos each and a case of diet pepsi I think. Two of the guys I was with spoke spanish so we didn't get screwed over while there. Had a good time while there.

when I went to Aculpolco, all the fun was on the beach. I think Corona in a bucket was 5 bucks then. I went there with a bunch of Marines and well..........you guess right, it was mayhem. I wish I had gone East Coast, but West Coast was way laid back so it was all good.
I was thinking about the Shellback ceremony, does the Army or Air Force have something to that nature? These ceremonies are fun! I remember waking up 5 in the morning with people banging on the walls and as soon as we walked out into the hallways, we were smothered in peanut butter and syrup! There was nothing but Marines in the hallways so it was harder to even come out clean. We had to hold each other hands in a line and food was smothered all over the floors, we had to swim in it! it's gross, but fun as hell. Next time around when you are a Golden Shellback, you get to mess with everyone's head, all the new recruits. *L* We charged a 2" hose, seawater on them Wogs. I had my chance at paybacks, especially for people giving me s**t, they got it the worse. Imagine doing pushups with your feet on the the other person's back, behind you so your feet doesn't touch the floor at all....all this in formation with about 10 other people. All them prissy girls who thought the world revolved around them, got it the worse too. LOL! it's not the same anymore though. Nowadays, there's alot of rules and stipulation. New Navy and Marines. Not the same anymore.
