Mr. Ruminator's wife does some of the prettiest ribbonwork I've seen. Her color combinations are great and her work is beautifully flat. There is a suit dancing around the midwest that she did with 19 ribbons that is a real eye popper!

Well after almost 2 years, several suits of ribbonwork for others, lots of beadwork, and some work on this little website I have, I'm finally finishing this suit of ribbonwork!!

I use the template method.

So here you can see one of the templates used in this suit.

I have the ribbon down on the board and have wet it.

Next, I put the template over the ribbon and clamp it down.

Then I cut the ribbon.

And then just fold the ribbons back and iron down.

Haven't you bought yourself that little iron yet. Saves wear and tear on the arms when lifting. If you haven't seen one, I will bring one to Mother's day.

Is there a typical, standard or good width for the finished ribbonwork strip?

I've always tried to keep mine about 2 1/2 to 3 inches wide, but I don't know if there is a standard.
