Has anyone been a victim of racism?

I'm not talking about stereotypical things like "You don't look like an Indian" and stuff like that. When I was out jogging in my all-white neighborhood, some white kids in a Ford Mustang kept driving by me and yelling stuff at me. Another time, someone threw a beer-bottle at me, but it hit the ground a couple feet in front of me. And my "previous" history teacher called me an injun.

How about you? Have you been a victim of racism?

I have whenever we went into this store this white lady kept followering us around. I was getting really pissed off because it was embrassing. I asked her why she only followed me and my brothers and sisters. The store was packed with people and she decided to follow me and my brother and sisters. I told her we aren't the only customers in this store. Maybe you should go follow them because I have money to spend and I don't think they do. I was so mad. And just recently me and my sister went to the mall and we went into a clothing store and this woman kept following me around. Me and my sister where the only natives that where in the store. I just looked at the woman and walked out of the store she got me so pissed off. But yeah those are the ones that I can remember but theres lots. It doesn't matter with me tho. I am not going to play their game. I am not going to stoop down to their level.

natives are a beautiful people....

i have been before....but not much....many people at work call me pippy long stockings when i wear my braids, till the hundredth time i tell em cause im native and i like it that way.

they called me pocahontas for awhile, but i ignored it, i stayed strong and realized they didnt know any better. they eventually got used to me.

if you are in an area that has not too many natives in it you will get that. for all you know you could be the first native american that person had ever seen, yes we are rare....
they are just curious. all they know about is what is in the movies and in the text books. some one needs to educate them!

dont take me the wrong way, but if you took the time to realize what the situation accually is, you might be able to make them realise you are people too.....that will be one less person you have to worry staring at you agian....

Im not even NDN and people call me BIG CHIEF! A guy at work does it all the time so I call him Hitler since he is german. He gets all bent out of shape. He has since started calling me sasquatch, so I call him gimpy (he has a bad knee)

I always got followed in stores when i was a kid.

In school I was from the neighboring ghetto town and not one of the Irish Catholic kids in town. My only friends for 8 years were 1 or 2 other kids from MY town. Even the principal had it out for us. Whenever something bad happened we were the first to be questioned.

This summer while driving out west my wife had me stop at a COACH outlet. After 24 hours of driving we both looked homeless. There was one lady working in the store and I kept walking a different direction from my wife just to mess with the lady. she didnt know which way to go! i should have set up the video camera in the car!

yeah but i live in south florida and everyone just assumes Im puerto rican so i get called spic, or wetback. Im not even hispanic not in the least bit but floridians are ignorant they figure if you have dark hair and tan skin you must speak spanish, and its funny cause most of the people who assume im hispanic are hispanics. Oh well I got over it.

my daughter gets picked on a lot. the other day she came home from school with a big scratch down the side of her face. i asked what happend and she said she ran into a her locker. i thought she just tripped and fell into it, intell the prinicpal called and told me one of the other kids pushed her into it and called her a red skin. it seems like every day at her school something happens. she's the only native in the school. it even happens when she goes into stores.

haha ive been discriminated lots of times,especially when i go swimming,im a sundancer an i have peircings so its like all the kids say stuff an u know how dat is,an when i got in a car wreck an went to the hospital the doctor is like well what are those an im like its part of my way of life an hes like well looks like it didnt help u any,an im just thinkin to myself if only they understood these kinds of things but im just a humble guy aye,no words get me down,i just live life like theres no tommorow an thank tunkasila for every new day he gives us,but also when i wear my a.i.m shirt i get a lot of attention in school haha i get the nervous eyes from teachers like ah man i hope this kid isnt plannin on doin somthin,aye its funny though,ive been in a few fights when boys were tryen to pick on me but in the end they were the ones gettin picked on,so really i dont get as much racism from kids but in public places like the mall whoo theres a lot,oh yea an the gettin called a girl for having long hair or wearin my dangly earings aye, that kinda gets to me a lil bit but its like since when did short hair become so normal?or why is white skin so normal?since the last i checked there is more than one culture an more than half of the popullation on earth is dark skinned,so yea i dont get why light skinned people have it in their heads that theyre better than everyone else,im not sayin all light skinned people are like that cuz i have some really good friends that are white an they are some really good people,an also the different practices that people have,i dont get in history when america was first developing they wanted freedom of religion,its like well why do u hate our practices or think that there is only one way to pray,hypocrits,idk if i spelled that right but thats how all "REAL AMERICANS" are,its like quit trying to make everyone the same,we were doin great until they came an messed everything up,savages,yea right, haha well im gettin into it to much aye,the a.i.m side of me is coming out aye,well yea i shared my experiences an maybe a lil bit more haha so, later.

I expirence racism just about everyday. When we go shopping, we always get followed by white people or I got this class in school where we can interact with other schools in our state well my friends have expirenced that they hear the kids talking about our school saying mean things about it right. Becuase we basically are a Native school but with only a couple of different races in it. Racisim don't bother me that much anymore, I guess I got use to it. But yeah I know, when I was younger I made me mad. But they are the ignorant ones and it's there bad that they can't see past us for our race!

I experienced racism throughout childhood & high school (I attended an all white school). It's crazy how in this day & age I am now watching my children go through the same thing. I guess I shouldn't be surprised that ignorance still exists but I guess it jus gets me that it's just as bad today as it used to be back in the days!
