Disk Defragment

ok all you dedicated,loyal Windows users. It's time -
defragment. Unless your system less then 6 months old, do it.
Been seeing some complaints lately and it's things that are easly solved. So go ahead and go to start, then from there to programs,into accessories, to system tools to disk defragment.

Click on defragment and let that bad boy do it's thing- and be prepared it may take a while, but it'll tell you when it done, so leave it alone and let it run. You'll be glad you did this.:D

Yes it does speed the computer up a bit.

My problem is that I have a brand new computer and the internet is very slow. even the sound effect for openning windows and minimize and maximize are labored. Like the computer is working and the sound comes out in bits and pieces. it is driving me nuts because it is a BRAND NEW computer!

what also hurts on your speed is if you on dialup
connection,the hookup speed you get from server,and the time of day and how many others are online using server. Number people using server also slows DSL just a little.

I prefer Norton's Speed Disk over the "stock" windows defragger. It defrags the pagefile (virtual memory) and optimizes files on more levels based on frequency-of-use without having to reboot the machine when it's done.

Be sure to dump your cache of temporary internet files - these can slow down your system as well.

I have yet to defrag my PC since i moved like 6 months ago....

Try it, you'll like it. Course with that piece of thing and all ya got on it, it might take 6 days to deragment:D

boy, ya best quit arguing with the old man. Defrag ain't all bad, keeps things packed so puter don't take so long searching. Did learn 1 thing about dial up that I'll pass out here. Replaced old v90 modem with a v92 and went from 40k to 50k hookups on v90 to anywhere frpm 53k to 115k on v92 on dialup. Not DSL or cable modem speed but better.
