The software wizzard
hey....I've been thinking about this for a couple of days, and have decided to go ahead and make a post. Here's the deal on this one. I'm really good with software, I test alot since I allways try to find the very best (as well as cheapest) programs that will help my PC run more smoothly.
What I offer: I offer to assist anyone in decision making on what software you need/want. I can give my opinon, nothing more. Also, if you are looking to get somthing I have never heard of or never dabbled with, I will get it, and test it out and give my opinon, which might end up being good for ya. What I ask: If anyone hears of any good software, be it any type, let me know. Just tell me here what it is, and what it's for. I am looking for new stuff at all times to look into, and rate for friends/certain websites that I do reviews for. In return, I will give you my honest opinon on the best software in a specific catagory (Anti-Virus,Cad software, etc.) I hope this will help alot of people, as well as be helpful to me.

mmmhmmm Talkin all that trash Ghostrider, But remember, I know where ya live
heheFor bare basics, what I think someone needs to run there PC, I'll list what is absolutely Neccesary, then a few lil things that I just like to get cause they make things easier. -Absolute- 1. A good Anti-Virus. I wouldn't do anything without one. Kazaa is a haven for viruses, and allthough it is the best P2P software in my opinon, ya gotta have something to watch your back. I'd advise a program like Norton if you can afford it, if not, go with Gladiator, AVG (Free Anti-Virus decent updates),etc. 2. Ad-Aware. I don't stress this enough...Even though few people don't like it, if your visiting a bunch of off name websites, be it fan sites, porn sites, whatever.....Your getting alot of spyware on your computer that you can't control. 3. A zip program, I don't use Winzip, I hate it. But it is one of the best, also, the one I use, "WinRAR" is great. Either way you go, you need one of these to download most things today. 4. Most everyone I know goes through IMer, Yahoo, and MSN. The big 3, most actually use all 3. This is why I get Trillian on my PC. One easy Buddylist, and controls all of your accounts, plus ICQ, and IRC. A great and useful program for communicating with your buddies. 5. Adobe Reader 6.0. This is the newest free reader that Adobe has put out. There are alot of sites now that are in, or have parts in .pdf format, and to view this, ya gotta have a reader. The cool function about Adobe Reader 6.0 (Acrobat), is the fact that they have taken there E-Book reader, and mixed it into the Acrobat reader, making one Solid program. In my opinn, it blows that Microsoft Reader out of the water. (Free for download at www.adobe.com) 6. Even though this should have been #1, I'll just say it here anyway. You must have an ISP on your computer (lol). 7. "If" you are a chatter, a person who hangs out in those chatrooms and such, then it would probally be crutial for you to grab mIRC also. Me, I got it, love the program for some downloads, but other than that, I never use it. 8. Some sort of Pop-up stopper. While not "needed" to keep you up and running, these save you so much time, especially on sites in which you have 20 popups before you can view the page you wish to see. Best Popup stopper in my opinon is Adsubtract. I like the fact that it also cleans your cookies, and will disable midi's from playing. I honestly think that this is all you need, keep your windows updated, along with all your other programs, Java, etc. You should run smoothly. -Things that I just like- 1. Paltalk. I love Paltalk. Its a great program, better if you can afford 20 dollars for a year, which kills the popups (Adsubtract does this anyway), and the annoying banners. Also unlocks Full cam mode. Paltalk is a chat program with Chatroom/Voice Chat/Cam Capabilities. Even if you have no mic or cam, you can still use it though and listen to all your friends, and just type in room to them :-D 2. Window Washer 4.8. This program cleans your system like no other I've found yet. Most have slow time, don't really delete, and just all around mess your system up. Window Washer cleans only what you specify, and does it quickly. 3. Add/Remove Cleaner- This is found at downloads.com for free. I'm sure you've had a program you deleted, but then it wouldn't leave your add/remove programs box, and annoyed you. While not being able to delete it (Since its allready gone), Add/Remove Cleaner hides the name, making it where you don't have to look at it. 4. Start Menu Cleaner- This lil program deletes empty folders, and all the junk out of your Start menu in a matter of seconds, I love it. 5. Regcleaner- (Be advised, if your not familiar with registry work, please don't use this, you'll mess your PC up easily) If you know about your registry, this makes the work a whole lot easier, its a small file, and effective. I could go on and on with stuff I like, but this stuff above is what I get everytime I reformat, or get a PC, or help a friend set up there PC. This stuff is simple to use, and you can usually get it all for under 100 bucks, or even free (Depends on what anti you buy/use). Hope that answers your question Mato :D

That is a tough one...First of all, everyone has a different opinon on this, as well as different machines. If your looking for simplicity, I'd either go with Windows 98 (SE), or Windows XP Pro (Costs more, but is fun if your PC will run it fast enough).
Me personally, I love Windows 2000 Pro. I just rolled back the clock so to speak, from XP Pro, to 2000 pro, and you'd be suprised how much faster my machine works. If your familiar with windows, and have ran 2000 before, or even if you haven't, and are decent in windows, I'd go with 2000 pro, if not, Stick to either 98 (SE), or XP Pro. Much Love
