Crow Fair 2008
Hello Everyone,
I will be attending Crow Fair (as a spectator) in August and was looking for some advice/guidance. Although I haven't been to a pow-wow in a number of years, I grew up in Oklahoma, and so have been to quite a few pow-wows in the Tulsa/northeastern Oklahoma area. So I'm not a complete novice at this. With the exception of some rather small ones, all the pow-wows I've been at have been indoors with parking garages, etc. I've never been to one the size and scope of Crow Fair. I will be staying in Billings for about a week. I figure that will give me a few days to check out the area, and a few days for Crow Fair. I'm looking for guidance concerning what to expect, parking situation, what I should bring, or any other information you think I might find helpful. Thank you in advance.

A spot on the Crow Reservation where Heaven and Hell intersect. The winners survive to come back another day. The losers get to pick up trash with bright orange uniforms!

WhoMe should know!!!
![]() Don't miss the parade!! Get there early so you can park. Just park anywhere...everyone else does...just not by a camp cuz you're probably taking someone's space. Expect it to be crowded, so your taking your chances bringing your own chair. If you're by yourself, you can probably squeeze onto the bleachers somewhere. The rodeo and horse races are fun. They even have betting windows. Check out the Little Big Horn Battlefield. Please buy from Native food vendors. Good luck finding good frybread! Eat at the Purple Cow in Hardin - right by the freeway. Check out Lambert's pawn shop in Hardin for all kinds of goodies...but everyone probably got their stuff out of hock for the Fair. Billings Fair will probably be going on at the same time, so don't miss it! I mean, the Montana State Fair at Billings. Night shows include Puddle of Mudd w/ Theory of a DeadMan, Bill Engvall, X-riders, Bull Riding, Sugarland, and ArenaCross.

Thanks wyo_rose!
From everything I've read, the parade sounds tres cool. I can't wait! Being by myself, I was wondering about the wisdom of bringing my own chair. Glad there are bleachers. I'll try to squeeze in there. I'm looking forward to seeing Little Big Horn Battlefield, too. Esp. now that the fallen from both sides are honored. You'd never know it to look at me, but I'm all about food! The Native food vendors will certainly get my business. Frybread!!! MMMMMMMMMM! (picture Homer Simpson drooling). I haven't had good frybread in a long time. Brings back memories of growing up in OK. When I was a kid I loved to go to Tahlequah so I could gorge on frybread and acorn stew! I'll definitely check out the Purple Cow, sounds great. Probably check out the fair in Billings, too. I never knew so much was going on in Montana in August! |
