The delaware's of OK were "adopted" into the Cherokee Tribe back around 1866. They are listed on the Dawes Rolls, some of this is covered in the "Congress and Cherokee" thread started by Whome. They broke away from the Cherokee's a number of years ago.

The Delawares moved from the East Coast and actually bought land within the Cherokee Nation back in the late 1800's.
They were adopted into the tribe enmasse and called Cherokee Delawares up to several years ago when they successfully seperated themselves from the Cherokee Nation for the first time in a 100 years
However there was a glitch within the BIA and they lost Federal Recognition and they are still working to correct that issue. Of course this is the quick overview there are some that would say the Cherokees did the Delawares wrong

I went to school with several and they were Delaware not Cherokee they have always kept tribal identity....

This Is My Own Opinion....the Delaware And Cherokee Are Their Own Nation...the Delaware...had Connections With The Cherokee...the Cherokee..is...a Large Nation...north Carolina...oklahoma...some In Arizona...ohio...but The Removal Act Separated The West From The South...georgia..made The Cherokee Move..out The State..we All Were Divided...i Am Western Band Cherokee..at One Time The Iroq. Also Was With The Western Band Cherokee...many Records Were Destroyed...the Best Place To Look..in The Library...or A Relative...that Knows...the 1800s Also Had Many Pictures...the Delaware Stayed Near The Delaware River...also Towards Snowowl Clan Cherokee...i Can Help You...further...also The Shawnee...potomic...mikmac...towards Canada...but In The States...the Senecca..new York...cherokeewolf...

my family stayed on the east cost there are pictures 4 that i know of only 1 of her in indian dress is there a differance in indian dress 1871? the family tree book says she is full blood cherokee possible she married a delaware/english person
civil war may have forced her north
can dna tell a difference?
