on a new path of life

Hello,
my name is michelle and i am currently working on my first shawl after 8 years of personal turmoil, and self hate. with the past year of soul searching my dreams and my grandma's lead me back to dancing. after 8 years you can only imagine how out of place and rusty you can become. especially in my place i tried to forget everything i ever knew because i was ashamed, but i am no longer. my shawls were made for me by my grandmothers, but they have long passed away. with hours of meditation and listenin to my dreams the have lead me back. they told me to make a shawl and go to the honor day celebration. this gives me little over a month to make my shawl. i know to use gabardine, and i know the length, but i'm having trouble with the fringe... as in, what type of material i should get, i'm trying to be respectful and open as possible because i am pretty wounded by the past 8 years of my life but i'm trying to turn that all around now and get back to my roots that made me happy. I want to go to the celebration and have a feeling of belonging. i asked my auntie who will be a speaker, and she just winked and told me my grandma's will tell me. if anyone can help me. i'd appreciate it. either with a reply to the post, or with an email.
thank you, love and respect to all~michelle

A good source Native American Indian Craft Supplies- Indian Craft Supply- Buckskinner Supply has flat, ribbon, chainette fringe. I have found ribbon at Walmart in the craft sections. Try Joannes, etc since you are from the US I don't forsee there being any problem with shawl fringe or getting it. I have also seen some women use flagging tape, so I guess it's each their own these days
