Can't imagine this

From reading some of the boards, it seems that it might be acceptible for non-Indians to wear regalia and dance in any dance at a powwow. I am a white person with some Indian ancestry, but I was raised white and have no tribal affiliation, and I can't imagine myself doing such a thing. I love the regalia and I love the dancing, but to me, it's not my place to take part as if I were living as an Indian and part of an Indian nation. Is it really appropriate for non-Indians to take part as if they were Indians?

A lot of the times, the non-natives become friends with the powwow people and they're slowly accepted into the circle. Of course there are the others who go about things the wrong way.

Thanks. Since I posted that, I've found some other discussions on the subject, so I understand a bit better now. I guess I was just picturing the ones who go about it the wrong way.
