Need ideas for a 49

I am looking for ideas on 49's. Next year during Oglala Nation Fair (August 2007), I will be hosting a 49, here in Pine Ridge, SD. The area is already in place, I would appreciate any and all ideas. Wopila!!!

Now will you be having alcohol? Just make sure your dancers don't get too wasted.

Have you thought about doing a "theme" one? I dunno maybe some kinda costume or something?

Thanks for the comments, the last time that a '49 was held during this pow wow, there was one too many little ones running around that shade, and there was way too much lights. Everything is alcohol free, but who knows?

What kind of area? should you have firewood, or is there a fire ban that time of year? there usually is here.

You need a good sound system and someone who knows how to use it. I'm talking big speakers and big power amps with lots of wattage to drive those speakers.

I usually put out about 10,000 watts of power into the dance circle at a low comfortable dancing volumn. The dancers gotta be able to hear the singers clearly and FEEL the drum. High power sound doesn't mean loud ear shattering sound pressure levels. It means clarity of sound.

The more watts you have the cleaner the sound. But you gotta have high quality professional equipment to pull off the sound right.

There's a difference between a Real 49 and a party. If you're just trying to throw a great after-party then get a DJ and have flyers are made.

Now if you want a real 49 just tell one guy that has a hand drum to show up w/his crew and the rest will take of itself.

Your right on! For a party get a DJ. I can do that.

For a real 49 get a drum and a sound system to carry the sound. I can do that too!!!!!

We are talking about a real 49, yeah we have the commitment of one drum group, we just needed ideas to help us along.
