My pow wow visit
I attended my first pow wow on Saturday and it was amazing. The grand entry with over 700 dancers was a sight to behold, truly spectacular, a real celebration. My children (3 and 5) loved the colour and the energy. The drumming and singing reverberates through you so much so that I found myself nodding my head and tapping my feet. I was touched by the lead dancer's tribute to his wife and family and how all who knew them came out to dance with them and pray with them.
Unfortunately the intricacies of the singing, drumming and dancing are lost on me, but I enjoyed my day at the pow wow nevertheless. At the markets I tried the fried bread and bought a couple of mementos of the day. My son (3) likes his stuffed indian pony. He calls it Jackio and carries it everywhere. I appreciated the etiquiette tips I found on this site (and the advice that people gave me from my earlier post - thank you). |
