Tribal Customs

I have seen some tribal customs many of you may or not have experienced.

One such custom is paying your way to have a seat at the drum.

Another custom is when someone close to the drum passes away, they have an empty seat in his honor.

and finally there is a holding stick that is passed around when the lead singer requests someone to lead a song.

Anybody seen these things happen? Please share if you have.

Anybody seen any other tribal customs inside the drum?

WhoMe,

Believe it or not, there are even some people out here who pay their way to the drum. How they do it depends on the family and their teachings.

The empty seat is done out here as well...Unfortunately, this is not practiced by all. When someone tries to sit and it becomes a "mini-scene" (especially during the middle of a song), we try to "educated" on the matter but that really depends on the attitude of the individual.

Passing the stick...you'll typically see that amongst the "old timers" or those who sing with them.

Thanks for the topic!

Paying your way is almost universal now adays..but the other 2, I've never heard of...I never seen that when I was living out there in Oklahoma, so it has to be some kind of old tradition. I've seen "Leaning Sticks", but never anything about a passing a stick around. Matter of fact when a stick gets passed around, you better watch it if it's yours, because its going in someone's bag. And the empty seat thing, BUH? That's another new one on me. I guess that's why everyone should bring their own chair to the drum, and not jump in any empty seat out there..
yup..g2g2 class...just something to get me thinking this morning, THANKS>..
