Whatever it takes

You ever been sitting there and someone signals you to start the upcoming song.... and you go blank?

Do you:

A. Fumble and mumble?

B. Sing the first thing that comes out of your mouth and go with it?

C. Sing a song that you don't normally sing?

D. Make a new song as you go?

E. Pass the lead?

F. Sing a song that has already been sung?

e

you PASS THE LEAD! Much applause for the singing at Otoe this past weekend and hopes for the same at Sultan Park. Get out this next weekend at Indian Hills and Kehekah Steh and wherever else. God Bless us Indian people.

I can keep it straight, and in fact this older man I know constantly forgets the leads and he's pretty much in charge. Even my kids know the leads better than him, it just drives us nuts! We keep telling him, a little mp3 player in his ear just might help him and be the trick, but he hasn't bought one yet.

WhoMe you forgot

G - jump up, clutching your stomach and walk to the Andy Gumpp with tiny steps because your legs are pressed together.

(Oh, and make sure when you come back you've got a smile on your face like you just had a religious experience.)

Here's two options...

Lead an appropriate song you know will rock that hasn't been sung yet (if everyone knows the same tune)

Pass the lead...

There was one day we were singing and we were the only drum, I said, ok guys we're gonna sing this one, opened my mouth to sing and out jumped another one, everyone's eyes got wide for a second, but the song rocked, sometimes those songs have a mind of their own... LOL. Way I was told by my wife's people was when a song comes you sing it, don't matter when it comes or where... I just chalked it up to that! LOL

Just my 49 cents worth!

Yes, buutt its awefully embarrassing if your lead singer, pulls out the grand-entry song that was just sung, and it was supposed to be a grass dance.

Red,

I could almost agree with you unless your singing for Golden Age Men's Traditional and out comes...

Happy Birthday to you..... *L

If I'm not sure, (and that happens every now and then) and a lead is pased to me and I don't know it, I pass the lead. I would never do anything to dishonor the drum, my fellow singers and back up singers, or the dancers. That's just how I am, and may not change(what with my age and all)......lol.

I know... I'm kidding!!!

LOL

sing

Seems like every swinging d_ck with a stick thinks they can sing. You need to know a little about what you're doing before you sit your happy _ss down at a drum. Some drum groups need to just give it up 'cause you sound like boy scouts. And you really don't know who you are, do you! Listen to yourself, then listen to your elders. Remember it's not about you or who can get a cd out,(some cd's really need to be kept in the studio), it's about who is puttin' on the dance and you are there to HELP. Don't be "killin'" the mood like a lot of groups do nowadays. No wonder you're still single. hahaha. And don't be hatin' 'cause you don't know yet, this singing thing takes a little time and you DO have to pay your dues to understand what the older guys talk about when they say "SHUT UP AND SING!" It's your voice, not your stick. --------------again with the Morris Day---------"that is, if you can, sing and dance."
