A non sequitur, but it reminded me of splitting dancers into two groups in a contest, which can be fallacious. If by happenstance, group A has good dancers and group B has crummy dancers, the judges will pick the best of the worst in group B. Then for the danceoff, you'll have crumbs dancing against the good guys from group A.

But in the end, the results are the same. The good guys, because they are the best of the good group A will always beat the crumbs from group B regardless. The problem is that the danceoff isn't as good. It's kind of like sports. Sometimes the best game isn't the championship game.
