Passing of Johnson Taylor of Yellow Jacket Drum.

Johnson Box Taylor, well known Ute singer, departed this earth Wednesday, August 30, 2006. A memorial service was held at Rolling Thunder Hall, Ignacio, Colorado, on September 2. The body was taken to Ponca City, OK, for a graveside interment and service. He is survived by Kathleen Taylor, their children, grandchildren, and a host of relatives.

Mr. and Mrs Taylor were instrumental in training a number of the youths of the Southern Ute tribe in southwestern Colorado, to sing songs southern style, especially in the Ponca mode of rendering them.

Was at a pow wow this past weekend with a good friend that is the lead singer of the White Hawk Singers who informed us of Johnson's passing... although I have never met Johnson, I have always been a fan of Yellow Jacket and their singing...

Johnson will be missed and I wish to offer my condolences to the family in their time of loss, I know from talking with my friend he was a man that will be sorely missed, and will be remembered with respect.
