So that it would be "fair", how would you set up Singing Judges for a Contest Pow Wow?

Would it be any different for a split contest as opposed to a combined category?

I think the key is getting a variety of judges.Making sure you get judges from the north,south,east,and west is very important.I also think that making sure to mix it up with dancers and ol' time singers gives everybody a fair shake.Plus, making sure you know your judges(don't just pick anyone off the street),goes a long way towards the integrity of the head judge.Besides,most of the time the head judge does no tabulating,just usually picks the judges.

What do you think about having "Pow Wow People" go through a little "registration" where they print & sign their names to a list for the Head Judge to scroll through and pick from?

I'm thinking more along the lines of something like a "guest book" and he, OR she, can scroll through the list and pick participants that they know of right off the bat.

How about work with the Head Tabulator to access the names of the Dancers and Singers that really kick butt during the first few intertribals to help define their list?

Just a few suggestions!

Has anyone ever seen either of these done before? If not, do you think it would work?

The big problem you run into with judging pow wow singing is that the EXPERTS are already at the drum singing the songs.
How do we remedy this? By selcting the host drums to do the judging! That'll work right? NNNOOOOOO! That's when we see unfair and biased judging because the personal feeling of competition and the Holier Than Thou Attitude that comes forth.

No matter which way you do it the results will always be skewed, unless...


We just get a bunch of WHITE folks to judge! LOL...

...but is it really a joke? Ponder that between songs.
