Wassup out there southern singers, and other singers alike. I got a question for ya. I'm trying to master the art of making drum sticks and it is kicking my butt. Can you guys send back some replies and let me know how you make the heads of your sticks? What do you use to wrap the head before you put the leather on? How do you get the shape of the head, ETC? basically how do you make the head of the drum stick? Appreciate any assistance.

Whats up Southernsinger,I use yarn and spray glue.At the head of your sick put duck tape,wrape ducktape until you like how big it is at head after that you use yarn and spray glue.

I have seen others make their sticks. The best technique that I have seen is to precut the leather outside head. Fold the leather pattern in half. Sew the top of the matching, precut circle's, at the seam so that they form a closed end.

Splice an old sheet an inch in width, the length of the bedsheet. I was told with this slender width you can control the shape when forming the head.

Tape the bottome end of the strip to the top of the blank drumstick with duck tape and start wrapping. Make sure the cloth stays tight. Once you obtain the desired shape of the head. Tape the end of the cloth strip with ducktape.

Turn the partially sewn leather cover inside out and slip the preformed leather over the top of your cloth base. Finish sewing on the outside seam and wrap the bottom of the leather with thread.

this is how i make my own. i get that sport wraps the one that looks like foam and its like matirial. yeah its thin and comes in variity of color, yeah just wrapit around a lot of times until u get that shape u want, i usually start with the top of the stick and go down and go back up, then when it gets ginda big i cut a thin peace and just go from there, then th leather, i cut it like a heart shaped, then us waxed thred to sew it about centermeeters apart so yeah.....this is me a singer from singing eagle, from kayenta AZ, hoka......

Whats happening man ? Hope all is going well ? for the head of the stick, you can use ducktape. Put the tape at the end of the drum stick and wrap it to the size you like. then when you get done with that start over again just below that one. I like to stager mine from the end kind of like steps . then wrap with yarn to the size that you like, once done with that tape the head lice a cross. then after that take the leather you want to use and lay it out even. lay the stick by the edge and measure how much you will need and then cut out what you need. You can use spray glue or regular glue to hold in place while you wrap it around. remember to place the stick in the middle of the material you are going to use and squeeze together you should leave enough material so that you can cut the edge of the material when you squeeze together. have any questions PM me and I will do my best to help.

Lets see now...Get some sticks...get some tape..some old codays...wrap em around till it looks like a ball then tape it...slap some colored tape around da SHAFT...ick..lol..then start pounding away..and thats how you make a tom tom beater. I should know...Im indian.!!

Don't forget to put a nice handle on, preferably baseball stitched leather, but I have seen them Barge glued. Maybe 7" long by 3/4" or so diameter. The overall length of the stick will vary depending on your reach and what you're used to. I have a 23" one that I like. Some get as long as 27".
