Camp Crier

Can anyone give me the history and/or significance of the Camp Crier in Ponca songs?

Ron,

Perhaps you should open this thread up to other tribes who have camp criers in their culture.

At the NMAI Powwow last year, each of the emcees Wallace Coffey (Comanche), Dale Old Horn (Crow) and Jason Good Striker (Blood) all gave the history of the Camp Crier as it pertained to their tribes. Then they called all the dancers out into the powwow arena in their tribal languages just as a camp crier would at their home powwows! It was very powerful!

To add a comment to your question, since Isaac Williams is no longer on this earth, the camp crying that takes place now is just-not-the-same.
