Who can sing in the contest?
Are all Contest Pow Wows solely for us; "skinz"? Or are there any Pow Wows out there where a mixed group can sit down and hash it out?
I know of several drums who have non-Natives that sit and sing. i was just wondering how that aspect was dealt with.

I have seen white people dance competition. Shoot they get balled out the same if they do somthing wrong there. So why not let them sing. Maybe they'll learn somthing. After all that's all white people are set out to do anywayz. Well some of them....

Well, this is going to get me some bad rep, but who cares? LOL I think it is absolutely HILARIOUS that tribes who aren't federally recognized card at their pow wows. This makes no sense to me at all. What about their own members?
I remember a few years ago the Cherokee, NC July 4th pow wow was for federal indians only and all the Haliwas and Lumbees threw a fit claiming it wasn't fair...yadda, yadda, yadda...but they card at their pow wows...??? I know, I know, everyone will say, "but they're indians too"...ok, maybe...but, if they can't prove it to the government, how does it make it any better than the other people who can't prove it? See my point? How are they any better than members of "tribes" such as Cherokee Wolf Band of Oregon? But, in answering your question...I think that who sings at a drum should be up to the head singer of that drum and not a pow wow committee. I know I'm biased, but I think the old Porcupine Singers were the best pow wow group in history, and in the 70s and 80s they traveled with a non-Indian who entered drum contest with them whereever they were.

I think it would be a good sociology experiment to get three drums:
An all women's drum An all nonIndian drum and An all two-spirits drum and have them go by those the names. Then... Have them all travel to: The Denver March The Gathering Red Earth United Tribes and Sky Dome Then see who is allowed to set up.... and who is not.

As long as they sound good, then i dont care who sings. But i have seen too many non indian drums sound completely horrible and think to myself "People actually see them as native americans" But i am nobody to judge who sits at a drum
