Well how is everyone these days? Been a while since I've posted any messages in here, but have something to say about new groups. The best new group I've heard so far has to be Southern Boyz. Them boys is bad to the bone, I've never seen just 5 guys go for it the way they did at IICOT pow wow in Tulsa. They did get robbed there, I thought they should of had first. They rocked da house! As for Schemitzun......they were robbed there too! I was listening to them guys all weekend up there and I thought they had a dam good chance at first place, a definate 2nd in the southern category. As the weekend progressed they seemed to get stronger. On sunday they was in the zone, I thought they were going to do a lot better than they did there. They are young men with very strong voices, I look forward to hearing them again sometime. I give congratulations to them on their lil pile of wins over this past summer at the various pow wows they won at. Just keep it real boyz!!

Cedardale singers

They are made up of Kiowa, Kiowa-Apache and Comanche singers. They tried their wings this year at the Gathering but were a little intimidated by the big drums. They had a good sound but got excited and sung too fast on their first outing. A little experience will go a long way. Look out baby!
I like the Cedardale singers, I think that they have good sound. most of them are close relatives and i'd like to hear more good things about them. Maybe they can get together more often at more pow-wows.:)

new groups

One of the newest groups that I happen to like is Cedardale Singers. But they don't always have the same singers everytime. I have seen them in several different places with different singers. If they could find a good solid group of singers to stick with they would be okay. In the meantime, if you have a chance to check them out I'd say go for it.:)

Thumbs up new up and coming drum groups

Hey, I heard a group out west called Humming Bird Singers, they sounded pretty good for a few guys. Their lead singer has a awesome voice and they seem to hold their own. Has anyone else heard of them? Southern Boyz, Sizzertail and Youngbird have all done a good job over the past year or two, hope to see these groups and others this year.

Talking southern drum groups

Some drum groups are very good, even spectacular at times, some drum groups never make to the big arenas, although they try to make it as far as possible, one group in mind, Standing Eagle, first known as Omaha Rough Riders, they have a very developed style of singing, they have a northern beat to a southern style of singing, their lead Singer Mitchell "BIG REDD"Sheridan, composed all the songs they sing and is still composing to this day, even though you hear of Whitetail (very good singing group) and Um'onha Lodge Singers (northern drum), they (Standing Eagle) has won drum contests at various powwows they keep pumpin' up the jamz for dancers and they will not stop, and the ladies that sing behind the drum also jam like there is no tomorrow, this a very close family of singers and they will keep on keepin' on:D :D

Cool up & coming southern groups

hey! I agree with you all...Southern Boys, Young Bird and Otter trail really jam! And...yes cozad is extemely smooth!

Now...in Wisconsin, there are some new southern sounds coming from the Menominee Rez..The Five Clan Singers...solid sounding group! Also from the Stockbridge-Munsee people..The Four Nation Singers are workin' it with some real style too. Both of these drum should have their 1st. CDs out by this summer..Aho!
