Standing to show Respect
I know there is a lot of regional customs on the pow-wow trail, but what is correct in the following cases:
Q: Should a drum's singers stand during: > Grand Entry (If you are not the ones singing) >During the Flag Song >During the Invocation/Prayer >During Honor Songs >During Vet's Song >When the Jingle dress Dancers are Dancing--especially during a requested healing/blessing song for the sick. What do you singers think? How is it done in your region? |

You already answered your question. There are regional/tribal differences.
We don't stand for anything unless an elder approaches the drum and then we stand to shake his/her hand. Other than that, we sit with the drum. This past weekend I had the opportunity to sing with some Kiowas from Carnegie, and they practice the same way we do...no standing.
