whats your favorite tricks for keep your voice all weekend
everyone knows halls what do some of you singers like to use?

When I was first learning the ropes of singing, I would gradually build up my voice stamina by singing hard during the spring months (the one night dances). As early summer came along, I would sing at ALL the sessions at the 3-day dances. This included afternoon gourd dances and all-night 49's.

By following this regiment weekend after weekend, by July my voice would never get horse.

Now that I don't sing as much, I pace myself around the "big drum." I have tried bitter root and lemons but to no avail. I prefer Halls Blue Ice and Coffee. They both soothe my throat and allow me to sing at my optimum pace.

Ya'll guys ever use fishermans friends? Thats some strong stuff
I do like who me used I use my dashboard as a drum and be sing along to with my tapes I be sing loud to try to build up my voice. When I use halls all day I have plaque build up...I call Halls NDN Candy!! have you tried strawberry flavor? good stuff!

I like the lemon halls with honey. And honey is goot. Sometimes I will just use mints or those altoids strong mints. I wonder....it must smell like someone's got a really bad cold if you were to walk out to the drum with all the halls being used and menthol stuff. whay!

You left out bourbon. You forgot to tell everybody about the bourbon. Lemon halls, honey and bourbon = a homemade whiskey sour. Now I can see why you have to use altoids when you come to the drum!

Candae, there are organizations and institutions out there designed for someone who has a hard time of it. Im sure you can find some information in the phone book or on a television commercial for your...condition...LOL..j/k.

Rule # 1 - sing and sing like hell in the early spring....kinda like whome indicates

Rule #2 - get plenty of rest (go to bed before daylight) as you can test your vocals out to a good nine!

Rule #3 - drink plenty of water

Rule #4 -drink plenty of beer when your out to a nine

Rule #5 - smoke ruins voices period! if rolling your own or smoking a stogee your hurtin your vocals.

I'm a southern singer, for the Walking Bear Singers, and for us, we usually cary around about 20 bags of Halls an Ricolas, but my favorite is drinking Hazelnut Coffee and lemon water before, during, and after singing. if you can't get real lemons to put in your water, i sugest using Fruit 2o lemon flavored, it always works for me, and i have friends on the northern drum 101 Singers, and they've all tried it and didn't even begin to loose their voices all weekend.

Figherman's friends are the best! my uncle brings them some times, and they're really good, btu the apple spice ones help your thorat most.

I just use water.

No cough drops, no lemons, no bourbon aye!

If you'll notice. Lots of singers don't have a full mouth of teeth.....I blame that on COUGH DROPS. So, IF i do use them, I go for the sugar free ones.

...plus, I've always been afraid of that one line on the cough drop bag......."May have a laxative effect if too many are taken"

Never got the squirts from sucken on too many cough drops
just feels like a lot of plaque on my teeth so I have to brush my teeth extra hard............and I think people lose thier teeth from not brushing thats all that comes down to!

LOL! good one! Corn Soup usually helps my voice & it doesn't give me the squirts either!!! lol!!!

I prefer Jim Beam Whiskey( Beam me Up!). Nothing like a keen whiskey voice the next day for gourd dance. to me cough drops dont really work..I mean, isnt that what they are for, coughs. I think water is a good tool to clear the gunk out of your throat. Lemons make the enamel on my teeth feel all someway. Coffee just makes me jittery..lol..To me...the way to make your voice go all 3 days at a powwow is to sing. Not Scream, not sing where your vocal cords hurt. Just sing. its not a singing contest who can sing the loudest or whatever..just sing. AHO! MUDOE~UHDAH~CHING CHOW PANG!
